Independent new age Johannesburg-based soul artist Yanga Yaya produces a sound that is laced with eclectic experimentations that draw from R&B, Indie and House music.
He released his debut EP titled ‘Elements’ in October 2018. The songs on the EP except for one, are named after chemical elements and Yanga did this to find creative ways to showcase how he has a scientific background (being a medical doctor).
He has graced a few stages such as the Absolut One Source Music Festival, Feel Good Series, UMI Festival and the Chad Sessions and was also an AfroPunk Battle of the Bands finalist in 2018.
Yanga followed up his EP Elements with singles ‘Love Elsewhere’ and ‘Perfect Time’, under a two-track release project titled ‘Boys Who Played Hockey’ and experimental gem, ‘Suro Nipa’.
This year he released ‘Your Type’’, which is his take on an unrequited love story. This sees the first offering off of his current untitled Sophomore EP that is due to be released later this year.
Yanga has just released his brand new single, ‘Thandabuza’, which means doubt in isiXhosa, one of the two ethnic tribes Yanga‘s lineage is derived from. The song explores doubt between two people who clearly have a strong connection with each other.
