It is that time of the year when we wrap up the wedding season and enjoy the last of what’s left in summer.

Lately, I’ve been booked for numerous bridal makeup up gigs so I thought it would be a great idea to share some tips with you. I am Jessica Molefe, a seasoned makeup artist based in Gaborone, Botswana.

What’s a wedding dress without a dazzling makeup look to compliment it on your wedding day? Brides to be, here are a few pearls of wisdom to help you understand the importance of having your makeup professionally done for your big day:

ALWAYS DO a makeup trial!

Even though most make up artist will charge a separate cost for this. It is important that you get it done prior to your wedding day. This is important for both the artist and yourself to understand what it is you want to achieve on your big day by trying out different looks and find what works.

This is also to examine your face and know exactly which spots need attention to achieve the desired look. A makeup trial will also leave you confident with your decision for the big day, one less thing to worry about when it’s time for wedding bells to ring.

Make sure your foundation is a perfect match!

Your foundation should be as close to your skin tone as possible! Your photographer and guests will be taking pictures of you non-stop so that last thing you need is to be caught off-guard when your face and neck doesn’t match.

The makeup trial will help you figure this one out, once you find your colour, everything else should be a breeze!

You never know when emotions might get ahead of you on the big day and the last thing you need is your precious makeup look running down your chicks and ruining your beautiful wedding dress.

Make sure your makeup up artists uses products that are waterproof to avoid damage of your look should you go teary or the sun gets to hot on the day. Your makeup artist should be your best friend on the day with a beauty blender on hand to blot. Using the blender will press the product back into the skin instead of leaving streaks or wiping the product away.

Find the balance on your look!

Make sure whatever makeup style you are going for complements the overall look on the day. For instance, if you are going for a Smokey look, go light on the skin makeup and opt for a natural colour on the lip.

If bold lips are what you are going for, I suggest you use a matte lipstick for a long lasting finish that requires less maintenance. If a gloss lipstick is your thing, make sure you have someone on standby for touch ups as the day progresses.

Keep a few products on hand throughout the day!

If your makeup artist is not with you throughout the day to make sure your look stays intact, make sure you keep a few essential products with you. Give these to your maid of honor or someone who will always be with you throughout the day.

Lipstick, bloting paper, translucent powder, setting powder and a mirror is a must! These will have should you need to rejuvenate your look or get rid of oil production on your skin.

Now go on and get ready for your big day! If you are in and around Botswana, I am available for bookings. Visit my Instagram page to see some of my work @Jessies_makeup_bw.
